Sorry for the lack of updates, i had open surgery on my stomach for the 7th time on December 20th so i'm a bit up and down at the moment!

Anyway...here's a song!

Released a couple of years back, this track, as usual for poor Deb, never got half the recognition it deserved!. It's like disco gone mad!

It was also one of the few singles to have Umyx which you could save as a playable file once you had remixed it yourself! So, here's my version!

I fucking LOVE Deborah Harry. Sensational vocalist, songwriter and generally fantasmagorical all round!. I dread to think how much money i have spent buying cd's from all around the world so that my Deb collection is complete! Yet another Sinitta post...You can't fault Sinitta for classic pop. Even cover versions take on a life of their own with this lady. Mike Stock once described Sinitta as having "the sexiest voice we ever worked with", and you can't help but agree...

From 1993, The Supreme EP was a collection of 4 songs originally done by (Quelle Shock!) The Supremes.

The Supreme EP reached the dizzy heights of #49 in the UK charts.

Two of the tracks, "Where Did Our Love Go?" & "You Can't Hurry Love" were later included on Sinitta's 1995 album "Naughty Naughty" which can be classed as a rare treasure in the Sinitta world.

Before Sinitta was the X Factor puppet she is today, she was an international pop star! Yes, really.

Lots of top ten hits and a host of unreleased gems followed by a stint in many musicals and a string of fabulous, yet flopped, singles. Aquarius is one of these.

Skip the horrendous 7 inch remix and go for the second track, the "original" in all it's Musical, sensual glory. Sinitta has such a great pop voice and surprisingly suited musical numbers like this rather well!

By the time of it's release in 1993, the world had given up on any PWL related artist. Even Kylie was having a hard time producing number ones. Lot's of number two's though...that's a different story no doubt!

Hopefully you will enjoy this delve into one of Sinitta's lesser known songs, it may not have been a smash hit, but it is definately one of her best singles.

The PWL Collection : Volume 1

I can not get enough of the 80's. Especially the joy that is the legacy of PWL and it's perfect pop! This post is a mammoth collection. The first volume of my PWL favourites. Volume 2 will appear if there is any demand. Some of these tracks are extremely rare and others were chart hits worldwide.

Some of them sadly never saw a release but are now available thanks to hardcore fans still being fans almost 30 years later!

Each of these tracks are either produced, arranged, remixed or fiddled with by Stock, Aitken and Waterman, Stock and Atiken, Stock and Waterman or some kind of variation from the PWL stable. Each song is unique and most definately a reminder of the glory days of pop.

I was going to write a long winded reason why i love each track but decided against this time consuming nightmare and thought i would let the music speak for itself, in all it's poptastic glory! I really do hope you enjoy this collection!

This song really does take me back. 1993! Cor! Still sounds as great as ever and i don't know if i will ever tire of this track. You have to listen to the Original Mix to get the extra verse and the full effect.

It's fucking shocking that Melanie Williams never soared high in the charts as a solo artist. She has a fabulous voice and her lyric writing is top notch! Typical of any artist i love - no other bugger gives a shit! Dammit!

The 1990's saw the charts move away from traditional Pop into Club music. Sometimes a song can be popular in clubs worldwide and have no effect on the charts. Until it's 2nd or 3rd release. And this classic is one of those tracks.

Alison Limerick's Original "Where Love Lives" was a typical David Morales early 90's sound. A massive hit in 1991, the track got a new leash of chart life in 1996 thanks to Dancing Divas giving it a proper dance club feel.

Where Love Lives is one of those tracks that people instantly recognise thanks to it's distinctive piano riff. When i first discovered this track, it was at a time when i was embracing dance music along side my usual PWL style pop.

Hopefully you will all enjoy this slice of house music and let it take you back to the hands-in-the-air happier times of the early 90's.

Released in 1996 on the PWL International label (PWL326CD), this is a fantastic slice of 90's pop/dance. Showing, yet again, that PWL were bursting with the best pop songs imaginable.

Written by Miller/Barry/Torch/Waterman (you may recognise some names there from Metro, the producers of Believe by Cher) and Produced by Motiv8, this little track is a total Gem in the world of pop!

Johnna was a member of flop pop group Boy Krazy (who were another rather good PWL project) and her solo album Pride was a collection of fabulous dance/pop tracks which sadly sunk quicker than Sonia's 60's music!

Johnna has a fabulous pop voice and the lyrics of this song made it a certainty that this anthem would be played all over Britain in the mid 90's.

For me, it sums up what PWL were about, great tunes with lyrics you can relate to. And the fact that the team beind Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit (Motiv8) produced this make it all the more loveable.

She Ain't Going...

We all know this song of recent times due to it's powerful vocal performed by Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls, however, the defining version is this one by Donna Giles.

It's full "Poppers O'Clock" style was very popular in clubs on it's release in 1996.

Sadly, Donna is no longer in the land of the living and this song never set the charts alight.

This track is a shining example of when music aimed at "Gay Clubs" can get it totally right.

Nicola Holt was a contestant on Big Brother. One of the very first to pile through those famous doors and face the screeching of Davina McBore.

As much as it pains me to say it, this song is actually a pleasant little dance number. Co-Written by Nigel Lowis who penned smashes for Michelle Gayle and the legend that is Dina Carroll.

Nicola ventured into music and sadly this song charted lower than Davina's saggy old fanny flaps.

I hope you enjoy this as it is a piece of BB history which ranks as one of the few listenable tracks released from these fame hungry whores!

She may be a bald headed lesbian, but i think she can be excused for the 3 minutes and 26 seconds of enjoyment you get while listening to this ditty!

This is how Margarita was introduced to an unsuspecting British public many moons ago by Clive James.

I saw her twice. Once in Edinburgh and once in Brighton. She brought the house down when she performed without her trademark keyboard for the finale. Her dance version of "Hello".

Internal wrangles and bastard record labels saw this pulled from release at the very last minute which is a cunt!

This is one of the best club songs i can ever recall from my days as a gay disco patron!

Excuse the quality of the Radio Mix, i did have the cd single but some bugger stole it and i have had to dip into the dodgy reserve tank!

I have the Full On Drama mix on a compilation somewhere. I am in the midst of sorting out my CD collection and when i find it, will post the full length orgasmic version!

The Whitehouse With vocals from Marlaine Gordon (Of E'Voke and Eastenders fame), take this classic to new heights with fabulous singing, bang on music and makes you want more!

It's a shame E'Voke faded into oblivion as Arms Of Loren is still one of the most haunting dance songs to ever be released.

If You Belonged To Me is one of PWL's little hidden gems that is highly under-rated.

Released in 1991, this song failed to make any impact on the charts which is a real shame. Nancy suffered partly due to PWL suffering the backlash of being so popular for so long and the fact that people kept claiming this record was actually Kylie singing. Utter bullshit.

Granted, Kylie was PWL's most succesful chart act but Nancy shines here with a lovely little pop ditty!

The 7 inch included the Edit of the Slammin' Remix which is utter pop heaven. Sadly, this edit was not featured on the CD which i have. I have listened to the vinyl and tried my best to edit the Slammin' Remix into a radio friendly version.

I hope you enjoy as this is definately PWL at it's best.

Crackers Locker

Opening with a very mellow piano number, this EP gets off to a great start. There is nothing better than the whispy vocals of Sarah Cracknell to bring a smile to your face.

There is a bit of everything in here, electronica, dance, chillout...It's all here.

Kelly's Locker was an American release to highlight Sarah's unique style and could possibly serve as a "disc 2" to her album Lipslide which is sadly under-rated.

Sarah Cracknell has shone and shone for many years as part of Saint Etienne and although they all joke about chart success evading them lately, it is sad to see such talent pushed aside in the charts for the likes of Cheryl Cole and other X Factor retards.

If you are a fan of Sarah's, you will love this "mini album" and if you are new to her then it is a very good start!

Dusty Delight

Dusty Springfield suffered a rather unfortunate slump in sales during the late 70's/early 80's. This was before her Pet Shop Boys collaboration renewed interest in her, of course.

It's a myth that Dusty recorded a "load of crap" during the wilderness years. She just suffered from bad promotion and being shunted around various "sub labels" every time she recorded a new album. Typically, she would record an album only for the person who gave it the OK to be replaced by someone who wasn't that interested in her.

A couple of singles recorded during this period are, in fact, non-album tracks which have only since appeared on limited edtion copies of very expensive albums. If you love hunting on eBay that is.

The 2 versions i include here today are the actual 7 Inch versions which are NOT on any album. They were "bonus tracks" on Dusty's 1995 CD Singles for "Roll Away" which is sadly another one of her most under-rated songs.

Both tracks are "Disco" but equally different! Baby Blue is a gorgeous little number which still sounds very modern all these years later. The only thing which is wrong with these tracks could be the backing vocalists who sound like The Dooley's on smack! LOL. Great songs though, you should agree!

To me, Dusty is still the greatest female singer of all time. Never shrill or dull, a perfectionist who could not grasp her fabulous talent. A poor woman who was dogged by ridiculous "is she, isn't she" rubbish about her sexuality. I don't care if Dusty was a lesbian. I don't really care if she fucked poodles on her day's off! All i know is that her voice gives me chills, lifts me up when i am down and there is no one quite like Dusty. And never will be.

Q-Tex. The Kings Of Rave way back when in the 90's. Most famous for The Power Of Love with it's soaring nu-rave vocals and techno beats...

Their album Into The Light was excellent and not as "hardcore" as you would think.

The perfect example of their genius is Let The Love which was released in 1996. The vocals being provided by Q-Tex regular Gillian Tennant who now lends her lungs to N-Trance when Kelly Llorenna is getting sprayed orange or smoking her Silk Cut Ultra's!.

It's simple melody yet progressive production are a good example of good happy music!

The song is actually not bad. Jolly and quite funny when you picture gruff voiced Mike Reid thrashing about on top of Babs during an Eastenders love scene...More a case of "the less we want to see of you!"...

The icing on this camp cake is the Boy George remix of As Long As He Needs Me which is so cheesy it makes you leak vaginal fluids down your pearly queen outfit and you spit out your jellied eels as you rush to the dancefloor and do some Saturday Night Fever moves!

Signing with EMI in the mid 80's, Dobson & Windsor were key players in the staging of Live Aid, (their involvement alone raised over seventy pounds)and they were responsible for drawing many of the big names on the bill including Betty Boo, Starship, Kajagoogoo, Leo Sayer and the Rock Steady Crew.

Further success followed; Eastenders producers were quick to sign the pair, Dobson in the 80's as Angie Watts (as a last minute replacement for Bella Emberg) and Windsor in the 90's as Peggy Mitchell, who was the first actress on the BBC to show full bush.

In 1999 Dobson passed away at the age of 79 due to a serious fungal infection (caught from Falklands Hero Simon Weston after a 1 night stand), and Windsor now 93, resides with Reggae sensation Pato Banton at a Caravan Site in Burnley.

I think it is safe to say that we are all familiar with the track Finally thanks to it's use in clubs worldwide for almost 20 years and it's inclusion in the hit movie "Priscilla : Queen Of The Desert".

Like most fabulous Dance Diva's, Ce Ce Peniston has been pigeon holed as a one-hit wonder. This is far from the truth as her back catalogue features some of the most well known tunes to hit the airwaves, charts and clubs over the past 3 decades...(90's, 00's and 10's fact finders!).

Ce Ce has a wonderful strong and powerful voice which is suited to any genre ans is displayed to perfection on songs like Finally (dance) and Crazy Love (ballad). She also turns her attention to Gospel Music sometimes which seriously highlights her magnificent range and unique voice.

I shall leave you with a fabulous set of tracks i have compiled for you Ce Ce fans out there. Some are old songs, some new, some you may not know...But one thing you will do is fall in love with one of the finest voices i have ever heard. Rebekah Ryan first appeared on the UK music scene in 1996 with the club smashes You Lift Me Up and Just A Little Bit Of Love. Sadly, she never set the charts alight and that is yet another travesty among many in the UK music industry!

Rebekah's 3rd single from 1997 is a cover of Barbara Streisand's "Woman In Love". I personally think it is fabulous and BETTER than old Babs!. I do not like Streisand's whiney nasal voice which, to be honest, does not justify hundreds of pounds per concert ticket. There. I shall be cast from the Gay community for daring to say that. I'd rather watch The Cheeky Girls have live colonoscopies on Channel 5 than listen to Babs.

I don't know why Rebekah never set the charts alight. Maybe it was bad PR from her label. Maybe it was the fact she looks like a Pish Spice clone in certain parts of the Woman In Love video. Maybe the UK is, and always will be, full of idiots with too much cash to spend on Mr Blobby singles?. Let's go with the Blobby theory.

Woman In Love is a lovely mellow affair and the cd features a few mixes which i think are identical and possibly an error during the process of manufacturing them. Who knows! Hope you enjoy as Ms Ryan has a fabulous set of lungs on her! The video for Woman In Love is at the bottom of this post!

For me, Cappella still capture the spirit of the early 90's dance scene. Thumping basslines, electronic carry on and female vocalists being squeezed to death to screech out one line that would make or break their career!

U Got 2 Let The Music is still a classic and although not all of their songs had 'U' in the title...This one does! U R The Power Of Love from 1998 was the first track to appear that was not on either album 1 (U Got 2 Know) or album 2 (War In Heaven)...

Not as instantly catchy as Move It Up or I Need Your Love, U R The Power Of Love still has that distinct Cappella feel to it which makes you want to black up and pretend to be guest vocalist for Black Box. Or is that just me?!

Almighty have had the honour of remixing some tracks over the past few years which have made the leap from ordinary track to totally fucking fabulous remix status. (Lulu - Hurt Me So Bad is one of their finest moments as is Jimmy Somerville's Lay Down).

I Am What I Am takes me back to Brighton in 1996. I first heard this camp cover in Revenge nightclub and went out the next day and saw it in the record shop. So i thought fate was pointing my heels in the direction of this cd. I still love this cover version 14 years later!

The man on a mission mix sounds spookily like Full Intention's "I Love America". I know bugger all about Respect, though powerhouse camp diva Hannah Jones did some songs with them including a version of I Am What I Am if i am not mistaken...

In 1990, Maxine Barrie won the first Stars In Their Eyes Grand Final as old trollop Shirley Bassey. That was in the days when the contestants looked like the act, sounded like the act and had to be fondled by "heterosexual owner of a 12 year old house boy in Thailand" Matthew Kelly.

Maxine released covers of Diamonds Are Forever and I Who Have Nothing which were the usual run of the mill poppers o'clock dance mixes. The 1st B-Side of the latter track, Goldfinger (1998), is actually a rather fantastic cover and i would love to have heard Shirley do a version similar. But without the cheap production. Or the varicose veins. Maxine also appeared on the single Mardis Gras alongside Mary Kiani and Margarita Pracatan. And yes, i own it. LOL.

Maxine has been a favourite in Gay bars up and down the length of Britain by hysterical queens too cheap to pay for the real Bassey. To be honest, you have GOT to see Shirley live. I did. 4 times. And it is really an experience, not a gig. I feel sorry for Maxine when she performs in Delmonica's in Glasgow. A bunch of common cunts pretending to be rich, popular and attractive must make her feel like a piece of shite. And half of these "hot young queens" don't have a fucking clue who Shirley or Maxine are. And they think Stars In Their Eyes is a drug. Twats. Anyway, enjoy this camper than camp single. There are many songs of RSF which are so tongue in cheek and saucy that you don't know whether to grab a disco ball or a kleenex!. 1993's Stick It Out is one of my favourite numbers from the band. It's cheeky, poppy and features "Sharon and Tracey" from Birds Of A Feather! What more do we need?!

Many moons ago, the sex god that is Sean Maguire starred in Eastenders with a shocking fake Oirish accent. I ignored that, put some tape on his mouth and sat on his face. Obviously the face sitting is strictly fantasy!

As with 90% of soap actors, Sean was approached by a record label and brutally forced into recording a few albums. Possibly by Simon Cowell.

I saw Sean perform "Good Day" when he appeared as one of the support acts for Lily Savage in Blackpool, 1997. Alongside the ever chirpy ginger muff Sonia. How gay is that for a line up?!

I was 2nd row...Sean was in VERY tight white leather slacks...Oh i still dribble at the length of his microphone! He sang a few songs and was swept up with the whole show which was like a mid-year Panto with ginger hair, cockney accents, Drag Queens and a million poofs drooling over poor Mr Maguire. I wonder if he was bummed that night by a massive bear after being made to drink Mr Sheen and Lemonade?. He quite possibly spent the rest of 1997 in a wheelchair.

Good Day is very Sonia-esque. All 60's and the like. The original version is very much a retro pop song...The Motiv8 Mix is the one that got us gay birds all hot and bothered back in 1996. In fact, i gyrated with a host of men to this track. And possibly a lesbian with a beard.

Motiv8 unleashed some utter legendary remixes of tracks over the 96/97/98 period which i still love to these days. Artists like Gina G, Saint Etienne, Diana Ross, Kelly Llorenna, Mary Kiani, Dubstar and N-Trance. The Motiv8 crew also produced the best ever mix of It's Raining Men. By girly trio Westend. I have that on promo 12 incher. 20 quid from Moz in Blackpool in 1996! Bliss!

What makes these tracks so utterly fabulous? They are very HI-NRG and have thumping basslines but are more modern than that description makes you think. I think i just leaked!

Yazz Don't Sing Here Anymore

I don't think this comes under the "pop" or even "retro" category. However, it is from Pop/Dance legend Yazz. And it is a bit rare.

After the success of "The Only Way Is Up", Yazz shocked people by producing proper music that was neither gimmicky nor throw-away pop. She made music in so many different genre's that in the end people gave up on her. Which is sad as she has such a lovely voice.

I own a couple of Yazz albums and the range of material and vocal skills is mind blowing. I am confused as to why the public gave up so easily on her.

The first time i heard Abandon Me was when it featured as 2 seperate mixes on her 1996 single "Good Thing Going". One of these was absolutely corking and i thought we would see Yazz head into a full on dance-diva style career. Sadly not. Abandon Me is a sparse, cut down version of Love Don't Live Here Anymore for those who remember that Rose Royce track later covered rather well by Madonna on her "Like A Virgin" album. Obviously, Yazz never bothered keeping it as a depressing ode to loneliness...

In 1998 Abandon Me was released and is Yazz's last single to chart to date in the UK reaching number 79. The remixed version was a fusion of urban and garage and never caught the imagination of anyone. Even an airhead like me. Though it does complete my Yazz collection quite nicely. Even if it should have been un-garaged and homosexualised!

Yazz has now found God. Like Gloria Gaynor. I presume that their Gay fans relish being told the wrongs of Homosexuality to a disco beat. I know i do!

Another Martine McCutcheon gem here. This time it's one from the short-lived Bananarama clone "Milan".

Martine, with Milan, then aged 15 (and working in Knickerbox), landed a record contract and a gig touring as the 'warm up' group for the British Boyband, East 17. I hope she never let Brian Harvey tickle her kipper.

Milan were reasonably successful. They entered the dance charts three times but were not successful enough for McCutcheon who didn't like playing in seedy clubs and ended up leaving the group. Hysterical given that she later performed many times at G-A-Y and was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Liza to that freak David Vest. No, David Gusset. SpiceDyke Mel C was a bridesmaid too. Or was she the groom?

Lead Me On got to a well earned number 154 in 1994 or something. See, touring those gay clubs DOES pay off in the end! I actually am not to fond of Lead Me On. More like Turn Me Off! Well, it's a good little pop ditty but not one of my faves.

I actually jizz to the B-Side "I Want Your Love". A cover of the old Chic disco hit! It is fucking fabulous! (Milan also covered "Is It Love You're After"...as featured on the "Stars Of Soap" CD linked at the bottom of this blog!)

What else can be said about Martine? She shagged the stunningly hot Paul Nicholls and possibly lezzed up with Madonna. Who hasn't?!

Gayle and Gillian took another crack at the UK market in 1994 with this number 71 hit. It's a cover of Prince's track "Wanna Be Your Lover".

Although not as cheesy as All Mixed Up or as catchy and fun as Mad If Ya Don't!, it has a certain charm that is utterly poptastic!

The Superfly radio edit is by far the best mix though they did try and cover every genre with the mixes. That would be the genre of repetition! We all love The Twins perky music and smouldering looks. Or something. Check out the cheesy Head and Shoulders advert at the bottom of this post... Is that an unreleased track we hear?? Sonia has a fabulous vocal talent but she has never had the promotion from her labels, except Chrysalis when she was with PWL. Simon Cowell had a lot to do with her 2nd album "Sonia", so if he is the mythical legend he claims, why did it go down like a pair of shoes in a mosque?

Listen, any man that pokes Sinitta is obviously a fruitcake. Cowell revels in his own smarm and his idea of talent is whatever he thinks will sell to 5 year old girls. Not what is really good. Like the voice of our Sonia! If she had been blonde, size 0 and wearing no knickers during the recording, Sonia would have had Cowell making sure that she had been number one in at least 36 of the countries he probably owns.

The single i am forcing down your throats like a sailor's cock today is "Hopelessly Devoted To You". Yes THAT song. The one from Grease. I do not like the actual song. I hate soppy songs full stop. Unless it is so good i wet my knickers.

It's the b-side of this 1994 track that gets my Eurovision vote! The Anthem Medley is a full scale ...well, anthem! I Am What I Am, You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) and Don't Leave Me This Way. Pure fabulousness!

Sonia sounds so happy and vocally she is great. The Anthem Medley is a woman embracing her Gay fan base who have, even to this day, stood by her whether she has a hit single or not.

More songs should sound like The Anthem Medley! It is unfair that this single missed out on the Top 40 when 2 Unlimited were racing to number one with No Lyrics. And yes...I bought that too! I actually treasure my Sonia collection more than my 2 Unlimited. At least Sonia has some range in her back catalogue. And in her back end too after a plate of baked beans! Enjoy!

Disco Shirley!

In 1996, Chris Rea made a film called La Passione. I know fuck all about it so i shall not comment!

Shirley Bassey makes a guest appearance in it playing herself singing with Chris on the song "Shirley...Do You Own A Ferrari?". That title screams camp you must agree!

Camper still is when Dame Shirley sings "Yes! I own a Ferrari". You know she ain't lying. It has a dashboard filled with Champagne! Champagne for everyone!

So...aside from that track, Shirley recorded what can be described as her first full-on dance track. No, you did not mis-read. DANCE.

Her track History Repeating with The Propellerheads doesn't count as it is more Jazzy than dancey.

The track i am gibbering about is the 1996 single "'Disco' La Passione". Billed as Shirley Bassey/Chris Rea, it is really just Rea doing the music and Bassey belting out the tune.

The single version is Orchestral Disco and reminds me of the theme tune to 80's TV Show "Juliet Bravo". Don't ask.

It is, however, the remixed 12 inch version that is of interest. It is VERY reminiscent of Children by Robert Miles. But with castanets, Bassey and a very infectious beat.

The remixed 7 inch is like a frenzied introduction to Eurodance!

Track 4 on the CD "Horses" is an instrumental track. But very nice and classical. Good to do the ironing too.

La Passione sank without a trace basically. Number 46 in the UK i think. But this is really one of Bassey's 90's highlights. Even now, in her 70's, she STILL has the voice. Songs like The Living Tree show just how powerful this woman's vocals are.

I love this dance experiment of Shirley's and i hope you all do too! The "Ferrari" track was not on the CD but i have added it as a bonus because it is so damn camp and must be shared!

In 2001 i had an orgasm when i heard the Eurovision entry for that year. For the 2nd year running! (2000's entry being the deliciously fabulous Dame Nicki French)

"No Dream Impossible" is Eurovision Gold. Performed by the then 15 year old Lindsay Dracass, it is a pounding, uplifting and cheesy anthem. With a distressed rapper thrown in for good measure! It really is so damn good. I actually get goose bumps listening to it!

For some outrageous reason, the song finished 15th and it is a travesty! Lindsay may have been 15, but she had a set of lungs on her that Bassey would be proud of!. The CD Single is one of my most treasured and i would love to hear Lindsay perform live. She sometimes tours Europe with Paul Carrack and his band so that dream might not be impossible! Oh, the puns are a-plenty on this blog!

Lindsay also now gives vocal lessons to students in Sheffield. Her album, which included a Beatles cover, sadly remains unreleased. The Orchestral Version of No Dream Impossible is such a stunning rendition that makes me think how criminal it is that Lindsay is not top of the charts worldwide!

Jan Graveson played the lady who dumped her baby on the doorstep of her former homeless companion. Diane Butcher. (Yes, Sophie Lawrence!)...

Her character Disa O'Brien (pronounced deezar LOL) went on to live with Dot Cotton who took a shine to the homeless lass. I always knew Dot was a dyke!

Disa never lasted long on the show which is sad because she was a fabulous actress and the storyline was realisticly gritty. As most storylines were in early Eastenders. Before Peggy and Pauline spoilt realism with dodgy facelifts and too many manicures.

In 2004, Jan played the part of a prostitute in the film Everything which won her rave reviews. Since then she has been performing at festivals and touring with her band Disco Indians. If you haven't seen Everything, i would suggest you watch it as the dialogue between Ray Winstone and Jan is fabulous and shows how good an actress Ms Graveson is.

Anyway, Jan's cover of Anyone Who Had A Heart is really outstanding. It turns it into a laid back slow jam and i really love this track! Jan had a go at songwriting for the B-Side which is a trippy-ish early 90's dance track which appears to be a weirdy type affair but makes you sing along after a few listens! Enjoy!

I do appologise for the seemingly endless amount of ex-soap stars that are appearing on this blog! My CD and Vinyl collection is like a who's who of Soaps! It's a pity i don't have Madge and Harold from Neighbours single because you would have to kill me to stop me uploading it!

Sophie Lawrence played the transexual daughter of Frank Butcher in Eastenders. Last we heard she was living in France playing the accordian with her breasts. Obviously that bit is untrue. Eastenders would never have such a realistic storyline these days! And no, Sophie is not a tranny. And neither was her character Diane! Damn! I love trannies!

Sophie dipped into the pop charts in 1991 with a fabulous HI-NRG cover of Love's Unkind. To this day i still think it is a great song!. Number 21 in the charts. Fuck knows why cos it is bloody great!

Since it never shot to number one, her already recorded follow-up was shelved! Bugger! The video was shot (see it at the bottom of this post!), PA's were done...I had hoped for a full album from this lady!

The follow up is the point of this post. Secrets. An album track from Kylie's best PWL album, "Rhythm Of Love", pop fans were familiar with the classic track and although the track is only slightly remixed for Sophie, there is something slightly more HI-NRG about it. There is a fabulous key change near the end of the song which just made me jizz when i remembered how good it is! (I appologise for constant mentions of HI-NRG on this blog too!)

The B-Side of Secrets is so damn camp it surely deserves an award!

Alas, Secrets was shelved less than 3 weeks before it's release and the already pressed CD's and Vinyl were melted down and turned into ear-rings for Pat Butcher. I weep to this day when i see Pat wearing her Sophie Lawrence Secretions! An album was practically recorded with PWL (9 songs) and someone, somewhere must have these tracks! I am gagging to hear them!

Does anyone know what Sophie is up to now? Surely Pat deserves a holiday in France on Eastenders?! I love Sophie. Great actress, maker of some fabulous 90's pop and a genuinely nice person too! Not many soap stars are like that these days! Enjoy!

Rock Ness Disco Monster!

Long before that trashy private school whore Myleene (got no) Klass was flicking her hair about the place, shagging drug runners and ruining classical music with her reality show piss flaps, Vanessa-Mae was The Queen Of Classical. Well, NU-Classical you could say.

Vanessa-Mae changed my view of "boring old violin shit" after i heard her stunning interpretation of I Feel Love. Yes, that old Donna Bummer classic! With violins! It opens with what sounds like a shotgun blast and kicks into a slinky, dance anthem that would make Dannii Minogue so wet that she would need to stuff a rolled up carpet in her gash to stop a Tsunami happening!

Van's breathy vocals take you to an electro fused heaven and just when you thought the song couldn't get any better, BOOM! She whips out her violin and gives it a right good fiddling!

Mae we also point out that this lady is the violinist on Janet Jackson's best ever track "Velvet Rope". So there!

Vanessa-Mae does the usual run-of-the-mill classical tracks on her album but she certainly puts her stamp on them by adding proper beats and changing the whole aspect of classical music.

I Feel Love is not her only up-beat number to look out for, Destiny and "White Bird" are fantastic too. Please note that "White Bird" is not a Sugababes song about living in a rough London council estate, innit!

Ally, Tony, David and Matthew. No, not Louis Walsh's takeaway order, it's Bad Boys Inc!

This camp-as-tits band were formed in 1993. Put together by Ian Levine, they were "massive in Europe". I had high hopes for these 4 stallions but their career was shorter than Jimmy Krankie.

Biggest hit was "More To This World" which got to number 8 in the UK. Everything else was either position 15 or lower. Ooh, sounds like the Kama Sutra!

Their album reached number 13. And for all you youngsters out there, that chart position in those days was a fantastic achievement. In the days when acts toured horrid gay bars 7 nights a week, performed for moronic children in schools on a daily basis...None of this "flash tits at Simon Cowell and get famous" shite.

Love Here I Come was their 6th and final single before they disappeared into a life of modelling, TV presenting, acting, shagging, chronic masturbating, manic depression or whatever else ex-boyband members get up to.

I have actually slept with one of these guys...You can take a guess if you like but my lips are sealed. For a change!

One of the problems with Bad Boys Inc was the really shoddy motown-esque dribble that appeared to be constant in their musical output. And their single "Change Your Mind" caused outrage. Amongst 3 homosexuals who realised that it sounded like Careless Whisper. Oh the horror!

One of the B-Sides to Love Here I Come was "Take Me Home" which was written by Hazell Dean and Ian Levine. It really is shocking. I love Hazell but this kind of low budget motown shite should be left to Sheila Ferguson or Sonia. It sounds like a Demo that Hazell wrote while on a bad period. Or maybe she lost her favourite flat shoes that week? I honestly do love Hazell though, so don't be getting all bitchy and reporting me to the Gay Mafia!

Ian Levine is a HI-NRG legend. He wrote and produced "So Many Men, So Little Time" for Sinitta's Mum Miquel Brown.and "High Energy" for Evelyn Thomas. 2 tracks that stand out as classic 80's HI-NRG tracks. He was also responsible for the horrendous 'Save Doctor Who' song "Doctor In Distress" which will go down in history as being worse than a Hollyoaks omnibus. Yes, it is that bad.

So what the fuck was going on here then?! Fab A-Side, shit B-Sides. "I've Got The Need"...I've got the shits after hearing it! Enjoy bitches!

Before she was fingered by Eddie Murphy, but after the Spice Girls, before Max Beesley's huuuuuuuuge cock and well before the Spice Reunion, Mel B was a solo artiste. She was the Spice Girl tipped to be the biggest solo star. And the first Spicy lady to release a single. While still in the band! Take that Geri Halliwell!

Melanie Brown's first solo single was "I Want You Back" with Missy Elliot so it wasn't really a solo track...A number one but a fluke it appears.

Her next offering was this 1999 number 14 hit... A cover of "Word Up". Now, don't get me wrong, i think it is a rather pleasing track BUT i really don't think Mizz B is as hip and happening as she tries so hard to make out on her musical outings (see last Spice album for her R n B influence on how to ruin a Girlband in 15 tracks or less!)

Word Up boasted a name change after her wedding to her alleged homosexual backing dancer. She was now Mel G. For one song only. That man also fathered her child Phoenix Bacardi. Or whatever she is called. That name change was dropped quicker than Geri Halliwell can stuff her fingers down her throat after raiding George Michael's bin for some fudge brownies (pun very much intended!).

The video was a budget busting extravaganza! It cost at least 25 pence and Melanie went all out to get herself another number one. Sadly it never happened. Ever again. Not even with the reformed Spice Whores. Probably.

The CD single is very rare as no cunt bought it. Except me and a fag hag who bought 300 copies to use as jangly ear-rings on nights out in gay bars. It also is rare because Word Up never appeared on Mel's debut solo album because it flopped faster than a pensioners cock.

Personally, i think number 14 is a fucking brilliant achievement. Too much emphasis is put on getting a number one. There are over 100 other chart positions to fill and no matter the position (ooh-er!), it shows that people are buying the song. Whether that means 1 person or 1 million.

The "B-Side" of Word Up is the absolutely awful "Sophisticated Lady" which boasts fellow Spice Grrrrl Emma Bunton on backing vocals. This is before she went fabulous with her 60's anthems. Emma i mean, not Mel. The lyrics are all about "The G woman gettin jiggy with her man" OH FUCK OFF. The only thing he got jiggy with was her pool man and her bank account!

Rubbish fact here : the song "I Love My Radio (Midnight Radio)" was changed to "DJ's Radio" because radio stations in the UK never broadcast after Midnight in those days (1987). Yawn. Some record labels are so stupid. Midnight Radio is a much more fitting lyric...

When you hear the opening bars of number 5 on this Maxi Single, you will cream yourself at the High-NRG delight i have dug out. Included are the awful '97 versions which no doubt made Taffy hang her head in shame or more likely had her gigging in horrid gay clubs like Bennet's of Glasgow. Bills to pay and all that!

In the UK, the original got to number 6 and it deserved to be top ten!

What can you say about the Blakeney twins? They were in Neighbours, poor cows had to shag Stefan Dennis! Yes, both of them!

They were on Des O'Connor's "Take Your Pick" gameshow as the dolly birds who banged the gong. No pun intended. Honest.

Then they were kidnapped by Pete Waterman and forced to record "All Mixed Up" as The Twins in 1991. It is an absolute PWL Gem which gets slagged off for being crap. It is NOT crap! It is legendary! If Kylie had recorded it, it would have gone to number 1 for 14 weeks!

After the flop that was that, no music appeared until the fabulous Mad If Ya Don't! in 1993. Produced by Dancin' Danny D, it is soooo damn cheesy. So funky. So poppy. So very me! The B-Side (Sacred Kisses) is a dancey little nursery rhyme like song and i love that too!

Another flop. And then another after that. I do recall an article in the newspapers around 1994 where the girls were telling how their laptop had been pinched and that it "contained possible number one hits". I don't know if they meant it had some Dannii Minogue material on it or if they were just off their heads on crack.

I adore The Twins so much and i am told there is a LOT of unreleased material floating around in their attic. I cry at the thought of missing out on more Twin fun! I shall post more Twin action at some point so be prepared!

No stranger to high camp, Shirley Bassey has to be the biggest gay icon who is not dead, insane or in a wheelchair.

In 2005, the record label ZYX unleashed this outrageous dance anthem which Shirley probably doesn't even know exists!

Featuring some Euro person called "Rene K", it is everything you would expect from Shirley. Camp, cheesy and rather good!

I found this gem whilst browsing one of those online European music stores and thought i should buy it. Especially when it says on the sleeve "Der Song Aus Der TV-Werbung!". If that's not a recommendation, i don't know what is!

I know Shirley is such a stereotypical singer to like when you are an old homo but she really does hit the g-spot every time! Enjoy this rather rare and outlandishly camp piece of The Dame! Although not as camp or fabulous as her cover of Get The Party Started, it is rather fantastic!

We are all familiar with Prisoner. The lesbians of cell block H!

I adore the show and everything that stands out about it such as Lizzie, Queen Bea, Mrs Davidson and her pots of tea, The Freak and, of course, the theme tune.

On The Inside was originally sung by Lynne Hamilton and was a decent hit in the 80's thanks to being used in Prisoner. It's a song of love, loss and er... roses.

In 1997, Central Station records in Australia released a cd single of the track by W.D.C.

This is no ordinary cover version though, it has been given a Robert Miles-esque treatment and been turned into a camp-as-tits anthem which should have been number one for 100 years!

I don't know the chart positions of the song and i know nothing about who W.D.C. actually are but i am sure someone knows something! Are they robots? Lesbians? Ex-Prisoners or is it Maggie Kirkpatrick earning cash on the side?! The cd sleeve states it was produced and twiddled by George and Michael Tassone. Brothers? Lovers? Trannies? Lord knows!

I LOVE this single so much and it takes pride of place in my rare and cheesy cd collection as a total lucky find and one i treasure as much as i treasure my Prisoner DVD's!

Poor old Sonia. She had the world at her feet in the late 80's. Well, the UK and Japan...

It all went tits up when she left PWL and branched out into her unique brand of 60's style numbers on her second album. Tracks like Only Fools, Be My Baby and cover versions like Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Number 86 in the charts. Her 3rd album contained more of the same but was saved by a stomping version of Boogie Nights!

I absolutely adore Sonia and was moist when i heard her 4th album was in the making. The very rare "Love Train - The Philly Album". Sadly, she was pissed off with the way it turned out so it was only pressed as a promo. Probably on her apple mac and a laser jet printer.

From that album is this outlandish single "Wake Up Everybody" which is so bad it is good. Sonia has a fabulous voice but her choice of production associates is rather shocking....

The single reached 155 in the UK charts which probably earned her £2.50 in royalites. It was her last single release for 14 years! She was obviously too busy playing Peter Pan in panto or being Lily Savage's wayward daughter Bunty! I saw Sonia support Lily twice in Blackpool and she sang like an angel! And she was very nice until i asked her if her pubes were ginger like her corkscrew perm!

Sonia released a new single last year "No Fool For Love" and it was as gay as Julian Clary being fisted by David Beckham. In other words, FABULOUS! There is another song in her pipeline which will no doubt have gay men up and down Britain clutching their pearls and squealing like constipated chickens.

Long before Martine McCutcheon was shagging Hugh Grant in a rubbish romantic movie, she was in Eastenders. Poor Tiffany Mitchell was poked and pushed by her hubby and she met a very sticky end. If rumours are to be believed, Martine has had a few sticky ends too!

Martine's first foray into music was as part of pop trio Milan who released a few singles (one of which i will feature in a later post). The charts were not ready for our Martine.

In 1995, Ms McClutchbag was getting a good prodding from DJ Gareth Cooke and as part of dance act Uno Clio, he asked Martine to lend her vocal talents to the fantabulous Are You Man Enough. Sadly, it never set the charts alight but it gave Martine enough cash to catch a cab to the BBC and audition for the role of Tiffany.

Are You Man Enough is an utterly fantastic dance track. Martine has a really great voice when she isn't ruining Judy Garland classics or passing herself off as Eliza Dofuckall. This song is what the 90's were all about! Enjoy!

Welcome to Rare & Retro Pop! For this first outing, i have decided to unleash a former soap star who had the misfortune to shag Ian Beale. More than once. For that we applaud her acting skills. Not once did we suspect she wanted to vomit exorcist style onto the Queen Vic Bust!

Aah! Good old Cyndi Beale. The bitch of Walford. Who would have thought that Michelle Collins would have become such an iconic figure in the history of Eastenders?.

She kept the nation gripped with her portrayal of the Super Bitch Cyndi for many years until she died off screen in Prison...Or did she?....

In 1992, Michelle was not just famous as Eastenders sex kitten Mrs Beale, she was also a former presenter of Channel 4 sleazefest The Word. After the success of Kylie and Jason, loads of Soap Stars were creaming themselves at the thought of number one singles and being huge in Japan. So Michelle thought she would give it a go with her cover of "Get Ready".

There is nothing wrong with Michelle's voice, it's nice and breathy and rather pleasant and summery sounding. The production however is rather cheap sounding! I like the song but would have preferred Ms Collins to become a full on dance diva and rape the charts with a version of Get Ready like the one Carole Hitchcock gave us from the PWL stable. Sadly, Michelle's pop dream never happened and the single sank faster than a mans penis into Madonna's gaping gash. She did appear on the charity single "Mardi Gras (It's Time To Party)" and released the theme to her BBC show Sunburn. Sadly neither of these bothered the charts either!

I have featured the fabulous Get Ready single because Michelle is a pure British icon. And she appeared as a rather fabulous lady in Doctor Who which puts her right up to the top of the "utter camp icon" chart. I hope Michelle does some storming dance track in the future. I for one would be first in line to purchase it!
